    From "Classic Car Restoration"

Steve, Allen and antique car restoration expert Keller Wallace begin disassembly on the '65 Mustang.
    Tools and materials:

In addition to standard auto-mechanic's tools (wrenches, ratchets, extenders, screwdrivers, nut-drivers, torque wrench, etc.), some of the tools required for this project include:

    power drill
    magnetic tray for small parts
    re-sealable plastic bags
    lubricating oil
    tape

Safety Alert: Always wear eye protection and follow proper safety precautions when working with power tools or pneumatic tools. Also wear eye protection any time you are working underneath a vehicle.

Safety Alert: As a standard safety precaution, don't rely solely on a jack to support the weight of a vehicle. When using a jack to access or work beneath a vehicle, always use jack stands for support. Make sure that the jack and stands that you use are rated for the weight and type of your vehicle.

    Steps:

    • Start the dismantling of the car so you can have good access to parts and systems (figure A).

    • It is always good to have some extra hands for this part of the project.

    • It's a good idea to spray old fasteners with lubricating oil to loosen them up.

    • Remove the bumper (figure B).

    • Removing the fenders will open the front end up and make it easier to work on the front end and suspension (figure C).
