  • Automotive Quick-Tip: Truck-Bed Liner Kit
  • From "Ask DIY"
    episode ADI-502
    advertisement

Most pickup-truck owners are familiar with molded plastic or spray-in bed-liners that are available to protect the bed of the truck. A less expensive option is a do-it-yourself custom bed-liner kit. Here's how it works.

    • The kit comes with everything you need to protect a 6-foot truck bed. The liner is a polyurethane material that's formulated to protect the metal surfaces from scratches and rust. The cost is less than $100.

    • To apply the bed liner, first you'll need to clean the truck bed and mask off any areas you don't want covered.

    • Next, simply paint the polyurethane material onto the bed of the truck using the rollers and other materials provided.

    • The polyurethane dries to touch in just an hour, and the truck bed can be used safely in 24 hours.

    • Since the coating bonds to itself, any repairs to the liner can be made by simply painting more polyurethane onto the damaged area.
