  • Frozen Car Lock (Quick Tip)
  • From "Syndicated DIY"

Don't let a frozen lock leave you our in the cold! Try one of these quick remedies:

    • Hold a flame on your car key until it heats up, then insert it into the lock.

Safety tip: The metal will get hot very quickly, so unless your key has a plastic handle, hold it with pliers.

    • Invest a couple of dollars in a lock de-icer, available at convenience and auto-parts stores. But be sure to keep it in the house -- if it's in the car when the lock freezes, it's not going to be much help!
