Square concrete pavers comprise the center area while trellises accent the beds.

Placing the Center Pavers

• With the stone edges of the pathways in place, host Mayita Dinos and crew move on to the square concrete pavers that will be used for the center of the pathway (figure A).

  Note: The width of the paths will determine the size and number of pavers needed.

• After carefully laying nine pavers in three rows of three to form a perfect square in the center (figure B), it's time to line each quadrant area with a layer of pea gravel.

• Leaving an inch of clearance above the gravel layer and the top of the curb stone edges, Dinos and the crew fill and level out the pathway areas (figure C).

• Next, they find the center point of each quadrant by running string from corner to corner in both directions (figure D) and marking the intersection.

• Once the center point of each quadrant has been determined, Dinos carefully places an ornamental wooden trellis at each point (figure E).

• With the four identical trellises in place, each quadrant is further defined, and the overall design of the garden is starting to become visible (figure F).
