Materials:flat surface purse (satiny fabric works best) fabric paint in red, white, blue and yellow glitter in red, blue and gold anchor pattern tailors chalk lint brush Download the PDF file, right, for the anchor purse pattern. Anchors Away Purse - Use tailors chalk to sketch out the anchor pattern on the purse.
Tip: Satiny fabric works best because paint would eventually peel off of vinyl fabric. On the show a black satiny purse was used and the host painted it pink. A white acrylic paint was mixed with red fabric paint. When you mix the two mediums together, it is pretty durable. Acrylic does not work well on its own and you would need a textile medium and that just turns it into a fabric paint. - Using red paint, fill in the anchor design.
- Sprinkle red glitter onto the paint while it is still wet and let it dry.
Note: Make sure you use the same color glitter as paint. If you are worried about smudging let each color dry before continuing with a new paint and glitter color. - Using a lint brush, clean off all the excess glitter from the purse.
- Using blue paint, trace around the outside of the anchor (figure A). Sprinkle blue glitter onto the paint while it is still wet and let it dry.
- Using a lint brush, clean off all the excess glitter from the purse.
- Using yellow paint, trace the inside of the anchor holes. Sprinkle gold glitter onto the paint while it is still wet and let it dry.
- Using a lint brush, clean off all the excess glitter from the purse.
- Add white polka dots to the anchor with white fabric paint and let it dry (figure B).
Tip: The tipped paint bottles make the paint so much easier to control without paint brushes. If your bottle gets clogged, use a straight pin to unclog the tube. They also have a small tip glitter that can come in handy. - Use this technique to create any design you prefer (figure C).
Tip: If your purse already has a design on it, you can trace around the design with a different color and fill in with paint and glitter (figure D).
