Host Scott Petti and his sister, Nancy, share a great family holiday tradition. They take a traditional shadowbox and turn it into a home sweet home by creating a roof on top made out of materials from a pet store! Then they add items inside the box like ornaments, branches and lights for a window into the past and the perfect holiday gift!

    1. Start with your favorite holiday photograph and then decide on something from the picture such as a Christmas ornament and recreate it.

    2. Start with a flat piece of wood with bark on the edge (from a craft store) and two half circle cut-out logs (figure A). (On the show two reptile habitat logs from a pet store were used.)

    3. Place the two log halves onto the base leaving an opening at the front and mark where to glue.

    4. Glue felt to the inside of the log halves (figure B) and then glue them to the base with epoxy.

    5. Staple fake Christmas tree branches in the back filling in the hole but not completely.

    6. Add your favorite ornament and photograph to the greenery.

    7. Cover the front opening with a piece of Plexiglas cut to size and adhered with glue.

    8. For the roof, cut out the template on foam core, score on the lines, and bend the edges up.

    9. Trace a small square hole just big enough to accommodate the battery pack for the lights.

    10. Glue the two sides of the roof base, leaving one side of the roof open to provide access to the battery pack.

    11. Glue doll house shingles (figure C) to the roof.

    12. Paint the doll house shingles to match the wood.

    13. Add lights to the greenery and slip the battery pack through the hole in the roof base.
