Materials: Tile adhesive Notched trowel Linoleum tiles Safety goggles or glasses Rubber gloves Butcher paper Base molding Tracing paper Chalkboard paint Box cutter Shelves L-brackets Hook bracket 3" door casing Drill Screws - Sweep the floor well to remove any dust and debris.
- Determine the center of the floor by snapping 2 chalk lines (width and length). Once the center is determined, work on the diagonals of the floor.
- Using a notched trowel, spread tile adhesive onto the floor (figure A).
- Allow the adhesive to set for several minutes before placing the tile onto the floor. The tile will adhere better if the adhesive is sticky.
Expert tip: Remember to work in small sections and to work on the diagonal from the center of the room. - Continue tiling the floor by repeating step 3 until the entire floor is covered.
- To cut tiles to fit door casings, use either tracing paper (figure B) or a pin tool (figure C). Put tracing paper underneath the casing and trace the casing form with a pencil. Place the tracing paper template on the tile piece and cut pattern.
Note: If using a pin tool, as Golden does in this case, press the pin tool onto the door casing. - Trace door casing pattern onto the tile (figure D).
- Cut tile with a box cutter (figure E).
- Wipe the excess adhesive with a rag (figure F) and paint thinner.
Note: The tile manufacturer will specify what type of adhesive and sealant to use. Make sure to buy to right kind for the type of tiles selected. - Apply base molding around the area of the room.
- Seal tile flooring with sealant.
- Allow to dry 12 to 24 hours.
