It's up to you if you want the legs (branches) of the table sanded and painted or rough and natural.

Be creative with the paint and stain. Duvall used a colored stain so she could see the wood grain of this tabletop.

    Materials:

    4 thick tree branches
    Saw
    Two sheets of plywood
    Wood glue or stain
    Drill
    Screws

Note -- To make sure that there aren't any insects on the branches, do the following:

    • Put small branches in the microwave for a few minutes.
    • Put larger sticks in the freezer.
    • Place very large pieces in a plastic bag containing mothballs and store the bag in the garage for several weeks.

    1. Saw branches into 2' lengths.

    2. Cut 2 pieces of plywood, one slightly larger than the other, for the tabletop.

    3. Drill holes in the tabletop where the legs will be attached.

    4. Use screws to attach the branch legs to the smaller tabletop (figure A).

    5. Hot-glue or use wood glue to attach the larger sheet of plywood to the smaller base, being sure to cover the screw tops.

    6. When the glue is dry, sand all surfaces.

    7. Paint or stain as desired.

Products: Saw, plywood, drill, glue and screws can be found at a hardware or home-supply store. The branches will be found in nature.
