    Walter and the Wagners
Meet Patt Wagner, whom Walter has known since college when they were part of a theater group together. Patt is an artist and her yard is full of items she calls "Found Art". Now she's looking to Walter and the DIY Garden Sense team to help her create a landscape that will compliment her unusual displays.

She wants a landscape with more shape. She'd like bolder shrubs and flowers that will frame her house and her art.

    Required Project Timeline

The unusual landscape project took an entire day to complete. One of the most time consuming projects was carefully moving the azalea, but it was well worth the effort to do it right.

    Project Details

Walter's design for Patt Wagner's landscape created several different focal points.
They were separated so there aren't too many things to focus on at once. The yard is quirky, so there are some unusual plants to make it complete.

The first step was to create the flowing beds. That meant digging up a lot of turf and a lot of plants. Most of them, however, were reused in the yard. Shrubs were added to create a backbone for the landscape. Two kinds of hydrangea provided the backdrop for our plants and the art.

Other shrubs are practically works of art themselves like the Harry Lauder's Walking Stick with its wonderful twisted branches and the Goshiki False Holly with its various colored leaves.

Overall, the Garden Sense team added a lot of sensible choices that will complement the eclectic yard. If you are looking for unusual plants for your landscape, you will probably need to visit a specialty nursery to find them.
