Nandina domestica 'Harbour Belle' Heavenly Bamboo
Gardener's Note: Heavenly Bamboo can be invasive in some areas. Sensible alternatives are Nandina that produce no berries such as Firepower and Harbour Dwarf.
Heavenly Bamboo is completely unrelated to Bamboo. Its common name comes only from it's resemblance to bamboo due to the fine lacy foliage, and the growth pattern of the plant, which is cane like. Nandina is classified as an evergreen, but will lose it's foliage if the temperature drops below 10 degreed F.
- Shrub that provides color in all four seasons.
- Blooms white or near white in late spring or early summer and turns red or brown with berries in fall.
- Plant in full sun to partial shade. Foliage colors will be much more intense if it is grown in full sun, with a little shade in the hottest part of the day.
