The rocks and flagstones are in place for the Jurassic garden. Now, lets talk plants!
Steps1. Maureen addresses the plants to grow on the slope. Ferns are brought in! Alaskan ferns (Polystichum setiferum) naturalize well in woodland settings and grow two to three feet high and wide (figure A). Mother ferns (Asplenium bulbiferum) make really nice colonies (figure B). 2. Mondo grass (Ophiopogon japonicus Nanus) is great for filling in holes between the rocks (figure C).
3. For the bog area plants, horsetails (Equisetum hyemale) are added (figure D). These plants will encompass the entire bog area. 4. Golden variegated sweet flag (Acorus gramineus Ogon) is a grass that will make a great edge plant bordering the bog (figure E). 5. Frosty curls sedge (Carex albula) is planted (figure F).
