"I went from my daddy's princess, to my husband's queen," Heather Hills states. By her own admission, she isn't the handiest around the home. Help on the Homefront's Jay Baker will guide Heather through a simple project she can do herself: applying stain and polyurethane to an unfinished wood table. Materials: 220-grit sandpaper Tack cloth or old cloths for clean-up Drop cloth, if needed Stain of choice Old cloths or brush for application of stain Polyurethane Brush - Begin by sanding table with sandpaper, then wipe down to remove residue.
- Use an old cloth to spread stain over the top of the table. Be sure to fill all cracks and wipe away excess.
- Apply stain to bottom of table and table legs using cloth -- repeat same technique as used in step 2.
- Allow stain to dry, then lightly sand with 220-grit sand paper.
- Wipe table to remove residue before using brush to apply polyurethane to top of table. Apply for thick coverage of the area.
- Brush polyurethane onto bottom of table and table legs and allow all surfaces to dry thoroughly.
- Add more coats of poly as desired (to create a shinier, more durable finish), sanding between coats.
