In terms of location and layout, the star attractions of this ground-floor master bedroom are superlative lake views and access to outdoor decks on two sides. Inside, the design elements and overall tranquil feeling of the room stylistically follow the "lakeside Zen" motif selected by Blog Cabin voters. Once the voters had made their choice, it was left to DIY design expert Amy Matthews to interpret their theme for the master bedroom and master bath in the context of a rustic log home. In the finished room, the chosen decor invites relaxation with the "sophisticated simplicity" of a nature-inspired line of furniture known as Environment. The casual earthiness of the furniture is visually complemented by a soothing blue-green wall color, Granite Peak. The wall paint in this room and all of the cabin interiors is a low-VOC formulation. "VOC" stands for volatile organic compounds, which can be toxic during and after application of the paint. Low-VOC paints are considered both healthier and greener choices when it comes to paint selection. Moving into the master bath area, two walk-in closets opening off the bedroom feature a custom cherry-wood closet organizing system that was selected by the online voters. The Granite Peak wall color, as well as the hand-scraped teak flooring, continues from the bedroom into the closet area. Like the great room, the master bedroom was one of the spaces that underwent substantial change as a result of the floor-plan modifications. The main deck was originally located off the master bedroom; once it was relocated to just outside the great room, a smaller wraparound deck was put in its place. It's the ideal spot for a few rocking chairs and enjoying the lake views and afternoon sunsets. View a slide show of this room. View the tallied results from the Blog Cabin voting.
