Blog Cabin's online voters chose "ornate decorative" as the design motif for the upstairs guest bath. As with the master suite downstairs, Amy Matthews, host of DIY's Sweat Equity, was charged with interpreting the chosen theme. In keeping with the principle of "unifying the whole house," and to tie the feel of this bath with the "lakeside Zen" of the downstairs bath, Amy selected comfy cork flooring and nature-themed wallpaper. Cork flooring is not only easy on the feet, acting as a natural shock absorber, but it's considered an environmentally sound choice since cork is a renewable and sustainable resource. The wallpaper featured an eye-pleasing arboreal print and was selected with the idea of "bringing the outdoors in." The paint chosen for the walls is a cool, soothing gray known as Evening Shadow from the Sherwin-Williams No Place Like Home collection. Exposed wood beams and vaulted natural wood ceilings add to the open and relaxed feel of this bath. The room is accented with a vanity featuring a wide cast-iron sink and oil-rubbed bronze fixtures, another vote-winning feature. View a slide show of this room.
