Like the man cave, the lower level garage was also a later add-on to the original floor plan. In addition to providing ample parking, the garage is outfitted to serve as a tool-storage and workshop area, creating another functional option in keeping with the Blog Cabin voter preferences. Key features of the garage include a Craftsman tool storage area and workbench, making the space functional as a workshop area as well, roll-out rubberized garage flooring and, the most distinctive feature of all: a dog-washing station from Groomer's Best. The extra-deep, heavy-gauge, stainless-steel tub/sink features a walk-up ramp that makes it easy for the canine water enthusiast to access a large bathing area perfect for rinsing off lake water. The backsplash wall has eyelets for fastening a leash while the pooch gets washed and groomed. Given the lakefront location of the cabin, and depending on the sporting preferences of the cabin's future occupants, this sink setup might also double as a fish-cleaning station. This Old House hosts Kevin O'Connor and Roger Cook showed up to help deck out the garage with some rustic trim work and to install the rubberized flooring. Roger and cabin expert Chris Hodshon worked together to fashion a custom storage bench that's ideal for storing water toys and is kid-friendly. Antique water skis, used elsewhere in the cabin as a decorative motif, were outfitted with hooks and used here to make for a clever drying rack for lake towels. The viewers decided the garage needed a tool and workshop storage area, so Craftsman tool storage units were added as well. For the garage doors, a style was chosen that continues the "barn door" motif, seen also in the man cave media room in the form of barn-door shutters and a rustic facing on a custom-built wet bar. The walls of the garage were finished in a basic sand color from Sherwin-Williams. View the tallied results from the Blog Cabin voting. View a slide show of this room.
