    Impact driver
    Hack saw
    Drill
    Speed square
    Ladder

    Existing Door Removal

    1. Begin by looking over the parts that came with the garage door.

    2. Next, remove existing garage door and torsion springs. When dealing with torsion springs (figure A), make sure the pressure is off and you are using the right size winding bar. If you don’t feel qualified, hire a professional.

    3. For safety, position the ladder to the right or left of the winding bar. If the winding bar were to slip, it would shoot straight back.

    4. Put the winding bar into the torsion cone to determine which way the spring winds (figure B). In most cases, the spring turns down.

    5. Alternate the winding bars, and crank them in a downward motion (figure C).

    6. Keep on cranking with each turn. The torsion spring should gradually loosen.

    7. Using an impact driver, remove the first center hinge (figure D). Start from the top and work your way down.

    8. Remove the top half of the hinge because the lower half, with the roller, holds the second panel in place.

    9. Next, the roller needs to be removed (figure E). First, make sure that the roller is safely on the track.

    10. Remove all three screws and then pull the roller right out (figure F).

    11. Then, remove the first panel and then the following three (figure G).

    12. If you are planning on reinstalling the garage doors somewhere else, put all the hardware in an empty bucket.

    13. With the first door off, remove the horizontal and vertical tracks, also known as rails. Remove the bolts from the horizontal track. Pull the track right down on one side and then the other (figure H). Take down the torsion bar.

    Ordering New Doors

    1. Make sure you get the right measurements. Don’t measure the rough opening. Measure from finished jamb to finished jamb.

    2. For the width, take a couple of measurements at top and bottom to make sure you’re square.

    3. For the height, take a couple of measurements again to make sure you’re square, from finished floor to finished jamb.

    4. Take one final measurement from the finished jamb to the low point of the ceiling. That way you can order the right type of hardware to make sure you avoid obstructions as you open and close the door.

    5. Allow enough time for delivery, approximately six weeks.
