In this final segment of DIY's Home Maintenance "Spring" episode, host Tim Hockenberry shares tips on smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
Smoke Alarms and Carbon Monoxide Detectors- Each spring you should change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. When it is time to spring forward, it is time to change those batteries.
- You also need to check the attic fan if you have one. Make sure it is running properly, It will help cool your house in the summer and cut down on the air conditioning bill.
- Test your GFCI outlets to make sure they are in good working order. You will find them in the bathroom, laundry room and kitchen. They will stop the flow of electricity to the outlet if it gets wet. This is real important.
Spring Home Maintenance Checklist- Clean windows and repair screens.
- Unclog and secure gutters and downspouts.
- Re-grade around the foundation.
- Test the sump pump.
- Clean the air conditioning system.
- Inspect and maintain the laundry room.
Additional Items - Change the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
- Check the attic fan.
