The frog stenciled atop the stone looks almost real!

Mike Ferrara, known as the Lazy Homeowner, inexpensively spruces up a plain concrete patio, using only stencils, stain and paint.

    Materials:

    Concrete stain
    Concrete porch and patio enamel
    Concrete slab or patio stone
    Stencils or stone template
    Frog stencil
    Light- and dark-green porch enamel
    Sponge
    Power sprayer or power roller
    Paintbrush
    Masking tape or painter's tape

    1. Apply a base coat of concrete stain to the concrete slab with a brush, sprayer or roller. Apply several coats (figure A).

    2. Tape the stone stencil template to the slab. Apply concrete porch and patio enamel in a contrasting color with a roller. Remove the stencil. Let the paint dry (figure B).

    3. Place the frog stencil randomly on top of the painted faux stone. Apply dark-green porch enamel to the frog stencil, using a sponge. Add highlights to the back of the frog with light-green porch enamel (figure C).

Both concrete stain and porch and patio enamel paint are durable and designed for outdoor use.
