    If you break a spindle on your deck railing, don't worry. It's easy to repair.

    Remove the broken spindle by taking out any screws or nails holding it in place. If you have to break the spindle out, wear safety goggles. Use a hammer to pound down any nails or screws that protrude from the bottom rail after you remove the spindle.

    Install a new spindle by screwing it into place through the top. You may want to use a spacer block (figure A) to help you space the spindle correctly. Drill a pilot hole in the bottom of the spindle, then toenail it to the bottom rail (figure B).
