Your builder will select windows based on the climate of your region, as well as the operating type appropriate for each room. Windows open and close differently, depending on the operating type. Following is a list of common types of windows:
- Casement windows are hinged at the sides.
- Awning windows are hinged at the top and open outward.
- Hopper windows are hinged at the bottom and open inward.
- Slider. Both sashes slide horizontally in a double-sliding window. Only one sash slides in a single-sliding window.
- Single and Double Hung In double-hung units, both sashes slide vertically. Only the bottom sash slides upward in a single-hung window.
- Fixed Windows do not open. They are for decoration only.
RoofsRoofs need to be tough. They're responsible for enduring the elements year after year in order to keep the outside from coming into your house.
