Time: 14 hours over two days.

    Difficulty Rating: It's rated a 2 on a scale of 1 to 5.

    Materials for Complete Project:

Modular cabinets and shelving (pre-ordered kit)
    15" x 8' slotted wall panels (pre-ordered)
    PVC flooring tiles
    Storage accessories
    Stud finder (magnetic or electronic)
    Drill with bits and drivers
    Phillips screwdriver
    Rubber mallet
    Level
Anchors for both block and drywall
    Table saw or jigsaw
    Utility knife (optional)

Before you start this project, be sure to measure your garage and determine the layout of the storage cabinets and shelving -- then order the cabinets. Empty and clean the garage and gather your tools and materials.

      Installing the Floor Tiles

    1. Lay the panels down and lock them together.

    2. Use a rubber mallet to pound the tiles together.

    3. Trim the tabs with a utility knife if you're working around something such as molding.

    4. To make narrow strips, trim the tiles with a table saw, leaving tabs to lock into the full-size tile.

    5. Lay a series of tapered-edge strips along the front.

      Assembling the Modular Storage Units

    6. Lay out the panels and hardware that come with the unit.

    7. Put in cam screws along the bottom, middle and top.

    8. Insert cam locks into the holes pre-drilled in the shelves.

    9. Turn the lock until the arrow points directly toward the cam screw.

    10. Put the panels together using the cam screws.

    11. Repeat the process until all sides and shelves are connected.

    12. Flip the cabinet over, mark the spot for cleat pilot holes and drill with 1/8" bit.

    13. Snug cleat under the rear of the shelf and attach using #8 (2") screws.

    14. Flip the cabinet back over and attach two steel support brackets into the upper corners.

    15. Install an aluminum stabilizer along the front edge of each shelf.

    16. Adjust the legs to get the cabinet level.

    17. Attach the cabinet through cleats into studs in the wall with screws that go at least 1" into the studs.

    18. Put in adjustable shelves that rest on pins inserted into the pre-drilled holes.

    19. Attach hinges and put the doors on.

      Base Cabinet with a Drawer

    20. Screw the slide bracket onto the side panel.

    21. Attach the slide to the brackets

    22. Attach the cabinet to the wall and drive a couple of screws into the next cabinet.

    23. For the drawer, attach one metal side to the 5/8" thick bottom with screws -- repeat on the other side.

    24. Attach the back of the drawer to the bottom.

    25. The front attaches by using two brackets that fit over the front edge -- screw into place.

    26. Add the handles.

      Install the Hanging Cabinets

    27. Level the rail and screw directly into the studs.

    28. Attach the rail so the top will be level with the other cabinets.

    29. Hang the cabinet onto the rail.

    30. Install the rest of the cabinets.

    31. Place the maple work surface over the two base cabinets. Screw it in place with a few screws underneath.

      Installing the Slotted Panels

    32. Find the studs and draw a line down the wall.

    33. Screw brackets (hang ups) into the stud with 8" x 2" screws.

    34. Use a level, mark the location for the second bracket and screw it in.

    35. Insert brackets into the slot in the back of the panel.

    36. Once the panel is in place, put a series of screws directly through slots of the panel into the studs.

    37. Put in hooks and accessories into the slots.

      Installing the Garage Door Screen

    38. Start in the corner and push on one of the snaps to make a small indentation in the wood.

    39. Attach the corresponding snap.

    40. Continue the process along the perimeter of the garage.

    41. Snap the screen into place.
