Cover the exposed edges of foam board with ribbon or sticker paper.

What a great way for kids to learn to save their pennies! Ana Araujo of Limited EditionB. Rubber Stamps makes an adorable piggy bank from foam board and rubber stamps.

    Materials:
    Limited Edition bank stamp
    Dye-based ink pad
    White card stock cut to 5" x 6 1/2"
    3 pieces of foam board cut to 5" x 6 1/2"
    1 piece of foam board cut to 6" x 1 3/4"
    Utility knife with breakaway blades
    Water-based markers
    Glue stick
    Bank window
    White sticker paper
    Wonder TapeB.
    Pencil
    Ruler

    1. Stamp the bank image of your choice on the card stock, and color it in with markers. We used a cat image.

    2. With a utility knife, cut the circular portion (the "tummy") of the image and set both pieces aside (figure A).

    3. Number the three pieces of 5" by 6 1/2" foam board FC #1, FC #2 and FC #3.

    4. Place the stamped image over FC #1, being careful to line it up. With a pencil, trace the circle, and repeat with FC #2 and FC #3 (figure B).

    5. With a utility knife, cut a circle on FC #1 and FC #2 only.

    6. Find the center on FC #2. Cut a slit 1 1/4" wide from the top of the foam board down to the cut-out circle. This will create the slot for the coin drop (figure C).

    7. Apply glue from the glue stick to the back of the circle that was cut from the stamped image, and glue it over the pencil-drawn circle of FC #3 (figure D).

    8. Using the glue stick, apply glue to the back of FC #2, and glue it over FC #3. Apply glue to FC #1, and glue it over FC #2. Stack all three pieces to create one piece.

    9. Glue the stamped image to the front of the stacked foam board (FC #1).

    10. Place the bank window over the opening on the front of the stacked foam board. Glue in place (figure E).

    11. Place Wonder Tape on the bottom of the stacked foam board, and stand up on base (figure F).

      Note:

      • A foam-board clock may be made in the same manner. Just stamp and color the clock face, and use it to replace the "belly" piece. Cut a hole in the center of the face and insert a clock movement from the back.
