Sue Pelley, from the Decorating Den, shares a few ideas for extra seating during holiday meals.
Converted Cardboard Table -- This is a cardboard table that's been converted into a beautiful holiday table. Pelley made a floor-length tablecloth with gussets at all four corners and piping around the side. To cover the cardboard chairs (figure A), she made beautiful slipcovers. Pelley added visual depth to the table by creating napkins with a fan fold (figure B): - Fold the napkin in half.
- Fold pleats approximately 1" wide and fold like a fan.
- Fold in half again.
- Tuck one corner into one of the middle folds.
- Place on the plate and let the fold fall naturally into position.
Pelley made a simple centerpiece (figure C) by filling a bowl with fresh fruit.
Sports Fan's Table This seating arrangement is for the sports fan who can't pull himself (or herself) from the television. Using the favorite team's colors, Pelley made a clever cover that fits over the eating tray. A pouch sewn into two sides can be used to store a beverage and the television remote.
Traditional Holiday Table Here Pelley has created the traditional holiday table in all its splendor. Follow these tips to decorate your holiday table: - Get extra drapery or furniture fabric and have a tablecloth, napkins or a table runner made to match. This creates a great accent that ties the room's decor together. Pettey suggests using reversible fabric with an elegant gold fabric on one side. This adds variety and is a way to use the material for more than one event.
- The napkins (figure D) were created with reversible fabric as well, accented with holly-berry holders.
- Candles always set the mood at any time, especially the holidays. Pelley used interchangeable green and gold candles to match the reversible napkins.
- The centerpiece is a festive floral arrangements made with dried flowers and foliage.
