Project Timeline: Invitations -- 3 hours Hanging Heart -- 2 hours Candelabras -- 30 minutes Buffet Table -- 1-1/2 hours Recipe Books -- 2 hours Shopping and Prep -- 5 hours Total time = 15 hours On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the most difficult -- this party rates a 4. Materials:
Lace Liquid starch Paint brush Pink card stock paper or construction paper Rose patterned wallpaper Glue sticks Pencil Pen Pliers Scissors Hot glue gun Glue sticks Pastel marabou feathers Silk flowers French ribbon Before you make your invitations, it is a good idea to draw a sketch of your party decorations, etc. (figure A) to get an idea of your overall concept. Benedict decided to make Victorian style fan invitations for this party. Here are the instructions: - Cut the lace into 12-inch strips.
- Brush the liquid starch onto the lace strips (figure B) making sure to completely saturate the lace.
- Fold the lace into a fan shape (figure C). Set these aside to dry for 24 hours.
- Cut rose patterns out of the wallpaper. Use the rose pattern as a template on pink card stock (figure D). Write the party information on the pink paper.
Note: An alternative to using wall paper is a clip art book that you can purchase at an Arts and Craft store. You can copy the designs from the book and enlarge them, etc. - After the lace is dry, expand it into a fan shape. Glue the paper rose to the front base of the fan (figure E) and glue the pink shape with the invitation information on the back base of the fan.
- Glue pastel colored marabou feathers and small silk flowers to provide decorative accents and a fancy touch to the invitations (figure F).
- French ribbon finishes off the fans. Just glue several strands to the bottom of the invitation and glue a loop large enough to go over a doorknob at the top and the invitations are ready to hang on the doorknobs of your invitees.
Expert Tip: Chris Champagne, Visual Stylist, says that if you have a definite theme for your party or event, you can do a little research and get the icons from that time period or theme. These help out a lot.
