Materials: Long rectangular table Round table Black tablecloth or fabric Red tablecloth or fabric 3 yards different-colored organza 2 strands twinkle lights 3 yards different colors of felt, cut into diamond shapes Roll of carpet tape Cake stands you made Circus lampshades you made - Place a black tablecloth or length of fabric on a rectangular table.
- Cut diamond shapes out of the felt and place carpet tape along the edges of the felt (figure A).Place the shapes all around the sides of the tablecloth to create a harlequin look.
- Lay the twinkle lights across the top of the table and cover with three different colors of organza (figure B). Just loosely layer them on the table and fold the ends under. Place risers underneath the organza to give the desserts dimension.
- Place the two taller circus lampshades on each end of the table to add height. The small lampshades and some extra jack-in-the-box invitations complete the festive look.
- Place a red tablecloth or fabric on the round buffet table. Tape the diamond shaped pieces of felt all round the tablecloth. Take a piece of PVC pipe, wrap some ribbon around it and add some colored cotton flags to the top that you have stiffened and creased softly. Place this in a terra-cotta pot for a pretty centerpiece for this table (figure C). This table can hold your coffee, fondue, fruits and cookies.
Note: For added decoration, you can paint china ball lights in colors that fit the French circus theme and hang them around the buffet. Expert tip: Color is very important --it makes the whole ambience at a party. If you want pink, blue, red or yellow tones, set up the decor to match your china and silverware. It makes a big difference. Expert tip: A great addition to planning a party outside is to use lots of lanterns. They can be hung from the trees, set poolside or draped along a bar outside to create wonderful sparkling light for very little cost.
