If the light fixture in your kitchen doesn't match the decor, why not upgrade it? Materials: Flat- and Phillips-head screwdrivers Circuit tester Needle-nose pliers to bend and shape wires Wire nuts Toggle bolts or wood screws to secure new light fixture - Turn off the power to the fixture at the breaker box.
- Remove the cover plate for the fixture (figure A), and pull the fixture away from the junction box.
- Unscrew the wire nuts, and use a circuit tester to make sure the power is off. Remove the fixture from the ceiling.
- Connect the wires for the new fixture, attaching black to black and white to white (figure B). Secure the connections with wire nuts.
- Push the wires into the junction box, and secure the new fixture with screws.
