The room features very high windows, which Golden was determined not to cover up with heavy curtains. So she opted for a long, toffee-colored window scarf made of a shiny fabric that works with both the marble fireplace and the flat walls. Draped over heavy, carved gold-colored finials (which control the height and weight of the window), the scarf reaches the floor on one side of the window but only slightly above the sill on the other side. Golden explains that a traditional window treatment would box the window in by stopping the visual flow around the room. Other options suggested by Golden include the following: - Tab-top sheer panels
- A fluted wooden rod and finial with a gold finish antiqued with black
- Panels attached by rings and clips
- A European-looking swing-arm rod topped with a lace or other sheer fabric treatment.
Golden points out that you shouldn't scrimp where drapery rods and finials are concerned: this is one place where you should spend what is necessary in order to get good quality.
