  • Quick Tip: Fitting Mini-Blinds
  • From "Ask DIY"
    episode ADI-510
    advertisement

Making a pair of miniblinds shorter is a lot easier than it may seem at first glance.

    1. Use the tip of a flathead screwdriver to remove the plug on the bottom rail of the blinds. Hang on to the plug -- you'll need it later.

    2. Release the cords by either unknotting them or cutting them off above the bottom rail.

    3. The pull-cord is the center one. Separate it from the other two, then cut the others off about 2" longer than you want the blinds to be. Remove the slats below that point.

    4. Restring the bottom rail back through the cords and knot the ends of the cords. You can tuck any excess cord into the rail before replacing the plug.
