Sometimes candlelight is preferable to lamplight. Nancy Golden, host of DIY Decorating & Design, explains how to convert an old electric chandelier into a candelabra.

To convert a chandelier into a candelabra, Nancy removed all the electrical components. She then removed the plastic socket covers (figure A), cut the wires out of the sockets and unscrewed the socket brackets from the fixture. A candle cup was made for each arm of the fixture by drilling out the center of the cup with a spade bit (figure B). A threaded rod, a collar and a nut (figure C) were used to attach the candle cups to the fixture.

    Options:

    • Dress up the fixture with decorative candle shades, or use fat pillar candles instead of tapers for a chunky look.
