Finally the room is ready for the addition of furnishings and accessories. Here are a few of the suggestions offered by Nancy Golden and other experts for bringing your own craft room to life:

    • Use an old work table as the craft room's work surface. Transforming the table is easy using hook-and-loop tape (figure A) and colorful fabric as a table skirt. Simply apply the adhesive side of one section of the tape to the fabric (which can either be straight or gathered, depending on your personal preference); then repeat with the adhesive side of the other section. Finally, attach the skirt by pressing the hooks and loops together.

    • Interior decorator Merri Lee Pitkanon suggests adding personality when decorating by using colors that are warm and soothing.

    • To incorporate gift-wrapping and scrapbooking stations into the craft room, Golden uses two sets of ladder shelves on the free wall.

Expert Tip: For adding safety, mount the ladders with utility hooks at the top rung.

By painting a 1/2" dowel rod and drilling a hole with a 3/4" spade drill through the side of the ladder shelving unit (figure B), Golden creates a perfect and efficient way to store ribbon and wrapping paper.

    Finally, Golden brings in accessories:

    • A colorful chair and ottoman (figure C)

    • A wall of mirrors (figure D)

    • A customized coat rack (figure E).

Now she has created a craft room that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also fully functional for a number of crafts!
