The walls are warmed with delicate shades of green and salmon inspired by a lovely fabric. A fabric-lined shelf and green-satin ribbon bulletin board add feminine touches to the desk area.

A spare room turned office space and sitting room for the lady of the house contains some lovely upholstered furniture, but it needs a few more warming touches to make it truly cozy.

Interior designer Courtney Yasmineh begins by selecting paint colors, which she pulls from the fabric of the existing chairs and curtains. Lichen green is used for the area of the wall beneath an existing plate shelf, and a delicate salmon color is used above it. To give the shelf more elegance, crown molding is added to its edges.

Outdated contemporary-style storage furniture is painted the same green as the walls. Fitted with white knobs and arranged next to a repositioned chair and ottoman, it blends unobtrusively with the French provincial decor of the rest of the room (figure A).

Cafe curtains are added to the large windows, which feature existing valances that perfectly complement the room's new look. A backing of pretty fabric added to the stark white shelving unit over the desk adds a warm touch to the workspace (figure B). Shortening the wooden legs of the upholstered chair that sits at the large office table makes the desk area comfortable and attractive too.
