    Figure B

Trash-to-treasure expert Robb Whittlef creates unique home and garden accessories from discarded odds and ends. An old mirror framed with galvanized steel lives a new life as a garden accessory, a millwork bull's-eye is turned into a unique clock, and old molding and barn boards are transformed into an eye-catching piece of artwork.

To create a unique garden mirror, Robb spray-painted an unattractive Chippendale-style mirror silver, then covered the frame with galvanized steel. He traced the design of the mirror on the metal, cut out the pattern with tin snips and secured it to the frame with silver tacks.

A bull's-eye -- the decorative corner of door or window molding -- is used to create a frame for a clever clock (figure A). Find a bull's-eye at a salvage yard, and fit it with a clock kit, available at craft and discount stores.

Make your own art with pieces of molding and discarded wood. Robb created an interesting three-dimensional piece of wall art by framing a hand-painted butterfly made from molding and mounted on a background of barn wood (figure B).
