    episode DKNG-211

Today's guest is knitting expert Uyvonne Bigham, the author of Knitting in the Round, who's going to demonstrate a knitting technique that will double your fashion possibilities -- and your fun! Jacquard- (or double-) knitting can be used anytime you want to knit something that's totally reversible, such as an afghan or a rug, because there is no right side and no wrong side. Today's project uses the technique to create a reversible knit top that features a charted star accent.

    Materials
Plymouth Yarn Company Wildflower DK #56 Orange (CC) (see amounts below)
Plymouth Yarn Company Wildflower DK #58 Lime Green (MC) (see amounts below)
    Knitting needles, U.S. size 5
    Knitting needles, U.S. size 5 (double-pointed)
    2 stitch markers
    3 yards elastic cording

    Measurements and Yarn Amounts
    30" (small), 13" long (2 orange, 2 lime green)
    34" (medium), 13-1/2 " long (2 orange, 2 lime green)
    38" (large), 14" long(3 orange, 3 lime green)
    42" (1X), 14-1/2" long (3 orange, 3 lime green)
    46" (2X), 15 " long (4 orange, 4 lime green)

Note: Remember that many yarns are seasonal and could be discontinued. If the specific yarn called for is not available, purchase a substitution yarn that comes closest to the specified gauge in your pattern. And be sure to make that all-important swatch to see whether the yarn works for your particular pattern.

Gauge: 10 sts = 1" over double-knit stitch on U.S. 5 needles or required size to give correct gauge.

    Tubular Cast-On

Note: No, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you! The image at right shows the stitches being cast on with orange yarn, the contrasting color (CC), but the video shows them being cast on in green, the main color (MC).

Cut a 36" length of scrap yarn. Using MC yarn, loop yarn under the scrap yarn and bring to the front, loop over tip of needle. Carry MC under the scrap yarn and bring to back, loop over tip of needle. Continue in this manner until you have the number of sts necessary for cast-on. You will add CC as you knit the first row.
