When you're sewing in the lining and you have two seam allowances meeting, be sure that they lie in opposite direction. This will help cut down on bulk in the seams.

Use a needle and thread and your fingers to crochet a swing tack. Just pull the thread through the fabric, leaving a loop; then use your fingers to bring other loops through the previous one until the chain is the desired length.

Now for the finishing touches. (And remember, it's the details that set a great sewing job apart from a merely good one!)

    1. Drop the lining into the pants, pin and stitch around the waist, turning under seam allowance at zipper (figure A).

    2. Make waistband using batiste for the facing. Understitch along trimmed seam allowance on batiste side, as close to the end as possible (figure B). Finish waistband with machine stitch-in-the-ditch from right side of pants.

    3. By hand, slipstitch lining by zipper.

    4. Hem the pants 1/2" longer than the lining, using the same hem-lace technique. Make a crocheted swing tack to attach the lining to pants at side seams of hem.
