Creating a Placket The placket is the slit in a garment that forms the closure. - To make a placket, turn 1/4" seam allowance on one long edge. With right sides together, pin placket to slash and sew (figure A). Press seam toward placket.
- Turn pressed edge of placket to inside along fold line and press.
- Slipstitch pressed edge over seam. On inside, bring folded edges of placket together. Stitch diagonally across lower end (figure B). Turn right side of placket to inside along seam. Baste upper edge.
- Pin back to lower edge of bodice back sections. Adjust gathers, baste, stitch and press seams toward bodice back. Turn in seam allowance on side and lower edges of bodice back self-facing. Press.
- Stitch front and back together at shoulders.
- Stitch front and back together at side seams.
- Stay-stitch neck edge.
