    Figure A

Craft expert Kathi Cardinalli makes designer soap from oatmeal, orange peel and purchased glycerin soap.

    Materials:

    Glycerin soap
    Cutting board
    Knife
    Glass measuring cups
    Microwave oven
    Orange peel
    Wheat germ
    Rose petals
    Mineral oil
Molds such as small glass cups, bottom of a water bottle, small cardboard box, gelatin mold
    Brush

    1. Cut the glycerin soap bar into chunks with a knife. Use a cutting board to protect the work surface.

    2. Place the soap chunks in a glass measuring cup, and microwave on high for about a minute to melt the chunks.

    3. Add orange peel or rose petals for color, oatmeal or wheat germ for exfoliating benefits.

    4. Brush mineral oil on the inside of the soap molds to prevent the soap from sticking. Use small glass cups, gelatin molds, a child's baking pan or any container you like (figure A).

    5. Pour in the melted soap, and let harden. It will take about 2 hours to solidify. Remove the soap from the molds. You can also mold soaps in a box to form a block and then cut slices from the block with a kitchen knife.
