Craft designer Kathy Peterson constructs a choir of heavenly paper angels from sheet music. They make perfect gifts for any music lover. Materials: One music sheet Two-hole black, white or tan button Hole punch Gold, black, brown and red marking pens Hot-glue gun and glue 1" black felt Scissors Cone-shaped paper water cup - Use a piece of sheet music that has a fair number of notes on the bars, and lay out the pattern according to the design in figure A. Use approximately 6 bars, or measures, of music for the wings and arms, about 2 bars for the hymnal and 5 bars for the body. See steps 2 through 5 for additional measurements. Cut out the pieces (figure A).
- For the angel body, cut a cone-shaped paper cup open so that it takes on a fan shape. Lay it down on the sheet music, and trace around the edge.
- Draw the wings in a rectangle measuring 2 1/2 bars of music by approximately 5".
- Draw the arms in a rectangle measuring 2 1/2" by approximately 5".
- Draw a miniature sheet of music, approximately 1" by 1".
- Using a hot-glue gun, glue the body of the angel together by bending the sheet music to form a cone. Glue only the edges of the paper (figure B).
- Fold the angel wings accordion style (with folds approximately 1/4" wide). Hold the folds together, and punch a hole in the center of the wings. Trim the edges of the wings at an angle, making sure the angles go in the same direction (figure C).
- Hot-glue the center of the wings to help hold them together. After the glue dries, place the hole in the center of the wings down on the point of the body, and glue in place (figure D).
- Fold the arm piece over about three times and hot-glue the center of the arms to the back of the angel. Gently bring the arms to the front. If necessary, hold them in place with your fingers for a few seconds while the glue dries (figure E).
- Trim the corners of the angel's "sheet music" with scissors. Define the edges of the music by outlining them with a black marking pen. Hot-glue the music to the angel's hands (figure F).
- Cut a bow tie from the 1" piece of felt, and hot-glue it onto the front of the angel below the wings (figure G).
- Using the marking pens, draw hair and mouth on the buttons, allowing the two holes of the buttons to form the eyes. Be sure to use a button that is the appropriate size for the body. Hot-glue the button face above the wings, centered on the "neck".
