Glorious gifts deserve to be wrapped gloriously. Crafter Liz Miller shows the basics of gift-wrapping. Materials:
Box to be wrapped
Gift-wrapping paper
Scissors
Double-sided tape
- Place the gift box on top of the gift-wrap, and cut the paper approximately 2" to 3" longer than the circumference of the box to allow for overlap. The paper should be wide enough so that each edge reaches the bottom of the box. Cut the paper to the appropriate size.
- Place the box in the center of the piece of wrapping paper. Fold 1/2" over on the long edge at the top of the gift box. Place a piece of double-sticking tape in the center of the folded-over edge.
- Bring the bottom edge of the paper up toward the center of the box. Bring the top edge of the paper down toward the center of the box, overlapping the bottom edge, and stick the double-sided tape to the paper (figure A).
- Turn the package so that one of the sides faces away from you. Fold each of the smaller edges toward the side center, creasing the top and bottom edges of the paper (figure B).
- Fold the top edge down, covering the two side edge pieces. Fold 1/2" of the bottom edge over and crease (figure C). Stick a piece of double-sided tape in the center of the folded-over edge. Fold the bottom edge up over the top piece, and stick the other side of the double-sided tape to the top piece of gift-wrap.
- Repeat step 5 on the other side of the box.
- Crisscross ribbon top to bottom and side to side around the package, and add a purchased or handmade bow, securing it with the wire that comes with the bow or with double-sided tape (figure D).
Curling a Ribbon Bow Materials:
Paper ribbon
Scissors
Pull the sharp edge of one blade of a pair of scissors over the back of a piece of paper ribbon, keeping the ribbon very taut. Use several strands of ribbon tied together to make a curly bow. The more strands you use, the fuller the bow. Tip: - Stuff the loops of a large bow with wrapping tissue or toilet tissue to keep them from being crushed during shipping.
