    Figure B

Mary Lyon, host of DIY Crafts, showcases brown-paper-bag crafts, explaining how to turn plain brown bags into decorative gift and party bags.

Use a checked fabric to cover the front of a brown bag. Cut an envelope-flap-shaped piece of contrasting fabric, and glue it to the top of the bag. Glue on buttons below the point of the envelope shape, and wrap the buttons with thread (figure A).

Glue a paper-heart doily and a gold ribbon bow to the front of a bag (figure B).

Cut an old Christmas card into a square with decorative scissors, and glue it to the front of a gold-painted brown bag. Glue a gold ribbon bow at the top of the bag.

Remove the back pocket from an old pair of jeans, and hot-glue the pocket edges to the front of a brown bag. Stuff the pocket with a pencil, paper strip and cellophane-wrapped hard candies.
