    Tips:

    • Use a hot glue gun to attach a small piece of wood to the lids of your wood stain cans. Coat them with stain from the appropriate can and you'll always know the stain's exact color without opening the can.

    • You can use a 1/2-gallon milk jug to soak brushes. Cut an access hole in the side and suspend the brush with a nail through the handle to keep the bristles straight.

    • Before painting exterior siding, tie back any shrubs or branches that may scratch the fresh paint. Leave them tied back for a week to allow complete drying.

    • A hair dryer can be your best friend when removing stubborn stickers, labels, and tape. Heating the adhesive softens it and gives you the upper hand.

    • When the going gets tough, the tough gets disposable. Most paint and home improvement stores sell disposable coveralls for less than $5.

    • Buy a bag of old t-shirts from goodwill or salvation army. Washing and reusing rags is better for the environment, and you won't have to part with your favorite concert "T."
