In this special edition of DIY Radio Control Hobbies, Chris Chianellli attends the Las Vegas Hobby Expo and gets a first-hand look at some of the latest products and developments from the world of radio-controlled models and other hobbies. The Expo takes place at Las Vegas' Riviera Hotel and boasts 40,000 square feet of displays and demonstrations, and more than 350 manufacturers of innovative RC products from around the country and around the world.
RC Car and Truck Demo One of the highlights of the Expo takes place in the parking lot just outside the exhibition hall: the annual RC car and truck demo. Manufacturers demo the latest in miniaturized automotive products, including nitro-powered cars, 4x4 monster trucks and some new technological advances.
- As always, this year's demo included a number of new-model gas-powered RC race cars (figure A and B).
- Also displayed at the demo was a system that controls RC racers using a full-sized steering wheel (figure C) as well as accelerator and brake pedals (figure D).
- One of the notable participants in the Expo is Team Trinity, a company that has been a pioneer in the RC car and truck business since 1980. At this year's Expo, Trinity displayed some of it's new line of auto bodies. Included were a new body for the T-Maxx (TM) truck, the most popular RC 4x4 truck, the Kyosho Inferno 7.5 (TM), Associated Trucks models, and touring bodies.
- Trinity also displayed a new carrying case designed for popular-model RC racers like the Micro RS-4 (figure E). The protective case holds the car itself, battery and extra tires.
