Chris's MailbagQuestion (from David S. of Miami, FL): I just moved to a hot climate and I'm told that heat is just as much an issue for electric cars as it is for nitro powered cars. Is that true?
Chris answers: A definite "yes." Heat can degrade the performance of an electric motor and, if let go too far can, completely ruin it. A heat sink for electric motors (figure A) is made to fit over the motor and has fins -- just like those on a nitro engine -- made to increase surface area and draw heat away from the motor. Check with your local hobby supplier for products like this and for more information on heat sinks for electric motors.
