Scraps of beautifully patterned paper are a great way to create "mats" for a vintage-style window page. Although all the scraps are different, complementary colors and patterns have been selected to create a coordinated look.

Lots of beautiful paper scraps lying about unused? Well, don't let a good opportunity to use them go by! Follow this technique from Anna Griffin and use the scraps to "frame" your favorite heirloom photographs.

    Materials:

    1 sheet AG028
    1 sheet AG003
    1 sheet AG027
    6 scraps of paper 3" x 4" (AG012, AG024, AG003 and AG028 are used here)
    Chipboard
1-1/2 yards of 3/8" gold satin ribbon
    Ivory paper
    6 heritage photographs
    Decorative-edged scissors
    Oval cutter
    Scissors
    Craft knife
    Ruler
    Cutting mat
    Foam dots

    1. Use decorative-edged scissors to trim AG003 paper to 11-1/2" x 11-1/2".

    2. Use craft knife to trim the AG027 paper to 11" x 11".

    3. On the reverse side of AG027, measure and draw a grid with the following dimensions: 1-1/4" x 2-1/4" x 3/4" x 2-1/4" x 3/4" x 2-1/4" x 1-1/4" (horizontal grid lines).

    4. Create the vertical portion of grid with the following dimensions: 1" x 3-1/4" x 1-1/2" x 3-1/4" x 2". Once the grid is measured and marked, cut center rectangles of grid to create six windows measuring 2-1/4" x 3-1/4" each (figure A).

    5. From scraps, cut six frames measuring 2-3/4" wide x 3-3/4" high. Cut out center of grames, leaving a 1/2" border (figure B).

    6. Crop photographs as needed to fit within frame area. Adhere framed photos to traced grid on AG003 paper (figure C).

    7. Edge gold AG027 with gold satin ribbon. Cut strips of chipboard and adhere to back surface of window page to create dimension. Center and mount hold window page over the photos.

    8. To create journaling tags, use oval cutter to cut six small ovals.

    9. Make small incisions on each end of oval, then thread ribbon through the incisions on each end. Trim ribbon edges diagonally.

    10. Handwrite or laser print journal titles on ivory paper. Cut to fit inside ovals and adhere to page with foam dots.
