Basic Supplies Scrapbooking is the creative combination of photographs, memorabilia and journaling (telling stories about the photos) for preservation of memories. Scrapbooking originated in Victorian times, but thanks to its resurgence in popularity in the mid-90s it is now the fastest-growing hobby in the country. Participants in this burgeoning hobby often gather to work on their scrapbooks together. These gatherings, known as "crops," allow scrapbook enthusiasts ("croppers") to interact while sharing techniques and tips. Host Michele Gerbrandt says scrapbooking is a hobby that grows along with skill level and the complexity of new techniques. To get started, however, only a few basic materials are needed to create unique pages and tell interesting stories. To get started, you'll need the following: - Pencil
- Ruler
- Sharp, straight-edged scissors
- Album or binder
- Adhesives
- Journaling pens
- Templates
- Photo-safe paper
- Decorative scissors or punches
With careful planning and shopping, all of these materials can be purchased for less than $75. Make your own memories by subscribing to Memory Makers® magazine: Memory Makers magazine Website: Memory Makers magazine.com DIY's Scrapbooking Glossary
