Interactive pages are a great way to add an element of surprise to scrapbook pages. Here, host Sandi Genovese creates a "Dance Fever" page with a visual illusion -- when the card is opened quickly (figure A), the stars of the photo actually appear to be dancing! Download the complete instructions for the featured "Dance Fever" page. Download the printable "Dance Fever" template. Materials: die-cut machine or craft knife pop-up card template or die several colors of cardstock photocopies of photos adhesive or double-sided tape die-cuts or stickers (used to embellish front of card) foam adhesive dots
- Genovese begins by loading the die into the die machine. She presses the handle once in the first position. Then, she repositions the die to the 2nd position, and presses the handle a second time. The pop-up die produces both cuts on the card ( figure B), as well as fold lines.
- Next, copies of the photos are made, cut out and attach to cardstock to match the card (the cardstock adds strength to the photos so they can stand freely when the card is open).
- Double-sided tape or adhesive is applied to the "pops" and the "pops" are secured to the card.
- A second card is cut with slightly larger dimensions than the pop-up card. This card is folded around the pop-up card to disguise pops that extend beyond the edge of the folded card and provide contrast.
- Die-cut shapes (stickers may also be used) are used to embellish the card. Dies are chosen to complement the theme of the featured photograph.
