Voice recording -- or the use of what's typically called a "memory button" -- presents a unique way to preserve the past through sound! With the press of a button, croppers can record a special message, or the sounds of a special day. When added to a scrapbook page, the message or sound can be played again and again.
- To permanently preserve the sound, the disabling tab can be removed (figure A).
- No power? No problem! The batteries can be changed without losing the recording. Simply push a paperclip through the top slot (figure B) and push the batteries out the side slot. The batteries slide back into the side slots, and the button stays in place as positioned on the page.
Shredded Paper Weaving
In addition to using a Memory Button to capture the sounds of bagpipes, designer Carol Rice also uses this shredded paper weaving technique to recreate the family's tartan.
Materials:
Scraps of paper in multiple colors
Paper shredder
Double-sided adhesive
Adhesive dots
Die-cutting machine (optional)
- Begin by shredding paper in shredder.
- Then, use one strip to create an anchor. Apply double-sided adhesive to the strip.
- Align base strips (usually a solid color) and adhere to anchor strip. Line them up carefully, each next to the other.
- Begin weaving patterned strips into base color strips (figure C) working from top left. Begin weaving first pattern strip over the first base strip, under the second, over the third, until completed.
- Use woven page (figure D) to embellish pages or use for die-cuts, if desired.
