Although puzzle templates can be used to divide a series of photos, most shapes can also be used as a templates. In this case, a large journaling card was created.

Don't feel limited to using die-cuts as embellishments -- use them as backgrounds to showcase photographs. In this example, the photographs are directly adhered to the die-cut shape.

Designer Alison Bergquist uses super-size die-cuts to add impact to scrapbook pages.

Idea: A "puzzle" template -- normally used to highlight multiple photographs -- can also be used to create a large journaling card (figure A). Simply trace inside the template, ignoring the dividing lines inside.

    Soccer Ball Die-cut

Berlquist also uses oversize die-cuts as page elements that create a powerful background, yet emphasize the overall page theme.

    Materials:

Black cardstock or paper, cut in circular shape
    Soccer templates
    White paper
    Pen
    Acid-free adhesive
    Craft knife

    1. To create a soccer-themed page, first cut a large black circle.

    2. Then, use soccer pattern template to trace and cut white shapes.

    3. Arrange and adhere the white shapes to the soccer ball (figure B), leaving space between shapes so that black cardstock shows. Leave blank space for the journaling square.

    4. Create journaling on computer and print onto white paper. Place soccer template over journaling, then trace and cut shape.

    5. Place journaling card in blank space on "soccer ball" (figure C).

    6. Adhere soccer ball to corner of page, allow half the ball to extend over page edge.

    7. Turn page over and use craft knife to trim die-cut, using edge of page as guide (figure D).
