Designer and instructor Debra Beagle shares a few of her favorite lettering techniques with DIY Scrapbooking host Sandi Genovese. While these techniques can be done on white paper using a light box, Beagle prefers to use vellum. - Beagle begins tracing letters onto the vellum (figure A). A special lettering template -- placed under the vellum -- allows Beagle to use see the letters, while checking placement and alignment.
- To create a watercolor effect, Beagle turns the vellum over and adds color using a brush marker (figure B). When viewed from the front surface of the vellum, the colors are softened.
- To create blended, multi-colored letters, Beagle uses a blender pen (figure C).
Sandi's Tip: Use leftover paper scraps and letters to create page titles. Die-cuts/templates provided by Ellison Craft & Design. For more information about Ellison, see Resources. Click here for DIY's Scrapbooking Glossary.
