Scrapbooks can be designed to reflect either a specific or an ongoing theme. A scrapbook with a specific theme is limited in scope and number of pages. Weddings, vacations and family histories are examples of specific-theme scrapbooks. The scrapbook's theme is artistically carried throughout the entire album with both colors and layout (figure A). An ongoing-theme scrapbook records activities and events that continue over a period of time. These scrapbooks require the removal or addition of pages, and the appropriate type of album should be used. Life albums, hobby albums, or those recording a child's development are scrapbooks with ongoing themes. Scrapbooking host Michele Gerbrandt says several steps should be taken before choosing a theme and putting the scrapbook together. - Develop film and get enlargements made.
- Arrange memorabilia.
- Sort pictures.
- Gather memorabilia and pictures together so you can think about placement and create a shopping list of needed supplies.
