We spent $1,000 on supplies and if you were to hire someone to do the work, it would cost approximately $1,675.

On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the most difficult, this project rates a 3.

Removing old vanity = 2 hours
Removing old shelving and side walls = 4 hours
Installing blocks, etc. = 5 hours
Installing light, etc. = 5 hours
Total project time = 15 hours

    Materials:

    2 x 4's
    1/2" drywall
    Drywall finishing tools
    Joint compound
    Corner bead
    Screw gun
    Screws
    Hammer
    Nail gun/nails
    Baseboard molding
    Paint/paint supplies
    Fluorescent light fixture
    Closet organizing system

The first step in any project is to determine your layout. If you know the dimensions of the space, you can figure out what you want and can do. There are computer programs available that will give you a true sense of what your finished closet will be.

    1. Measure the walls to figure out exactly where to put the new walls (figure A).

    2. Gather all your tools and materials and make sure you have everything you need before you begin your project (figure B).

    3. Prim and paint the new baseboards.
